LUMINOUS WA

NOMINT director ShiShi Yamazaki - Forbes 30 Under 30 alum, Chanel campaign visionary, and singular force in hand-painted animation - returns to Tokyo with LUMINOUS WA, a vibrant new solo exhibition at Art Cruise Gallery (June 27 – August 11, 2025).

Best known internationally for her experimental rotoscoping and distinct watercolor aesthetic, ShiShi has carved out a singular space in the animation world. Her short films ripple with poetic grace and cultural depth, often blending tradition and innovation with effortless flair. As a director at NOMINT, her work is sought after by brands like Chanel, Shiseido, and Diptyque, thanks to her delicate but daring sensibility infused with refinement and visual intuition.

LUMINOUS WA invites visitors into ShiShi’s evolving world through an intimate presentation of her latest animation - screened in full - alongside a collection of original paintings and handmade ceramics that echo and extend her visual language. Soft textures, ShiShi‑Pink hues, and swirling, almost ceremonial repetition create an environment where time seems to slow and light becomes a subject in itself.

The gallery describes the show as, “A unified experience of her creative present… To shine is to live. To live is to revolve.”

It’s a rare chance to experience the breadth of ShiShi Yamazaki’s artistry, from the frame-by-frame pulse of her animated work to the tactile intimacy of her ceramics. For those familiar with her commercial collaborations, this show offers a quieter, more reflective dimension - an alchemy of motion, material, and emotion.

If you’re in Tokyo this summer, don’t miss the opportunity to step inside her world.
